The Gyuto Tantric University in Sidhbari, framed by the Dhauladhar range and once the residence of the 17th Karmapa.
Gyuto Monastery is one of the great Tibetan tantric colleges, re-established in India after 1959 and now based at Sidhbari below Dharamshala. Its golden-roofed main hall stands against a dramatic backdrop of the Dhauladhar peaks.
The monastery was the residence of the 17th Karmapa for many years. Visitors are welcome in the main prayer hall, which holds a large statue of the Buddha; please keep voices low during prayers.
